Most professional illustrators would say that Adobe Photoshop is not a good choice for beginners, because of the amount of time and money it can take to learn to do certain tasks. Then they add that Macs are a great platform for PS. This technology and approach to design work can be learning and challenging. I (Joe) am a web designer, not a graphic designer and illustrator, but I have many friends who are designers, illustrators, and artists. They tell me it’s a must-have program that can take a long time to learn.

Up until recently, most Mac users were trained on NeXTstep/NeXT Computer programs such as Develop and Interface Builder, which are both long extinct. All the original NeXTStep and Apple interface builder programs are now owned by Cocoa-based Mac apps such as Adobe Photoshop. NeXTSTEP users have mainly switched to Mac OS X, although they are still using NeXTSTEP applications such as AppleWorks. You can use Photoshop CS5 on a Mac with a NeXTSTEP application such as AppWorks.

Alternatively, Photoshop CS5 can be run on Windows under BootCamp, as well as on a Mac using Parallels. So if a Photoshop user prefers Windows and Windows programs, you can simply use Photoshop on Windows.

In this book, I (Joe) will give you the most up-to-date techniques in CS5 Photoshop, meaning the Photoshop version that comes with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

Elements is better than the shareware version Photoshop Lightroom, because it includes both many of the features found in Photoshop and some of the features found in Photoshop Lightroom. In some ways, it is more like Photoshop Lightroom than Photoshop, but still you can save it to PSD format that can be opened in Photoshop and Lightroom. I personally prefer using Elements for all my images, which means that my images are stored in JPEG format.

1. Open an image with the New Image command.

Use the New Image command to load a new image into Elements. You can also load and save images, create custom Photo Filters, and perform other useful image-editing tasks. You can use the keyboard shortcut combination Ctrl + N (Windows) or Ctrl + G (Mac).

To open an image, press Ctrl + O (Windows) or Shift + Ctrl + O (Mac). Your image opens in the new window.

Now, this is a big difference in the new image-editing mode vs. regular. For example, if you want to resize your images, you use regular Photoshop.

How to Save Images

Image editing tools and tools for making color corrections and customizing your images are good enough for anything and everything you want. You can edit images, modify color, add artistic effects, and organize your images in the new image-editing mode.

But, creating your images is just one part of editing. You still want to be able to save your images, preserving their settings.

How to Save Images in Elements

You can save the original image, modify it and then save it again. You can also import photos and other images from other sources, such as albums or other digital cameras.

To save an image, open a picture file. Then press Ctrl + S (Windows) or Shift + Ctrl + S (Mac) and select File – Save.

The Save as dialog box opens.

When you save a file, Elements automatically saves it in the most recent location where it can save files to. You can also save to a different location.

When you want to apply a preset effect, often referred to as a filter, use the Filter menu to make the selection.
Inverting and Grayscale are predefined actions that you can use on an image.
You can use the Selection Brush to create or edit selections.
Use the Drawing Tools to make direct selections of objects.
The Eraser tool helps you erase unwanted objects.
The Shape Layers feature lets you create more complex selections.
You can use the Smudge tool to create a blurred effect.
You can use a Recompose Tool to arrange and resize multiple photos into one composition.
You can use the Liquify filter to make direct transformations on photos.

Photoshop comes with a myriad of features, fonts, effects, and brush or pen tools. Here are some of the most common ones:

Brushing and drawing tool: The Brush and Drawing tools let you paint images with a variety of color overlays and effects. You can apply these effects to an entire image or simply individual objects.

Painting or drawing tool: The Painting or Drawing tool allows you to add brush strokes or paint strokes to an image. You can erase objects or paint over them. You can also use a Brush Tip Shape and gradient to paint on the image.

Printing tool: The Print tool lets you print an image on paper. You can use the Position and Size options to print on a plain paper sheet or press a digital copy on a sheet of paper coated with special ink.

Selection tools: The Selection tools let you select, drag, and transform objects on a 2D canvas. You can pick a single object or use the Selection Brush to select a range of objects. You can also use the Selection Brush to select shapes, lines, or colors on an image.

Type tool: The Type tool lets you enter text on a document. You can use the font and character size options to change the size and font style. You

I Love You, Bye is the eleventh studio album by Australian musician Paul Kelly. It was released in March 2012 through ABC Music. It debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart and received platinum accreditation in its first week of sales. “Ole Jocko” was nominated for the 2012 ARIA Award for Song of the Year. Reception

The album received critical acclaim. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 82, based on 14 reviews, which indicates “universal acclaim”. Phil Mongardo, writing for The Sydney Morning Herald, praised the album and said that Kelly “has always been a master of his craft, and is richer and more assured than ever on this new batch of songs.” Jonathan Lewis, writing for the same publication, said that “each song is a success” and the album “a masterful piece of work”. Alison Croggon, writing for The Age, called it “a powerful addition” and “a glittering showcase of Kelly’s great vocals and skills in song”. John Clarke, writing for the Official Charts Company, said that “his best ever album” and that “the album feels like a natural progression from his previous effort.”

In his consumer review, Allmusic’s Greg Sandow gave the album a strong review, as did Annabelle Attridge, who said that the album was “a flawless and confident record.” and reviewed it for Short List, saying: “the weight of its aching reflection on modern love is balanced by Kelly’s hope for a better tomorrow.” The review noted a change in the “narrative of ‘A Kind of Love’ – less of a groan and more of a dance groove.”
