The introduction of Adobe Photoshop Elements (formerly Acorn) in 2001 gave Photoshop more leisure time for serious hobbyists. Elements is a full-featured version of the classic Macromedia application, with similar features, capabilities, and interface. Elements offers basic adjustment tools for fixing photos and videos, and it includes several effects that are useful if you want to apply an effect, such as border frames, pixelating, or posterizing, to your images. It also includes a basic drawing program for creating line drawings.

The big limitation of Elements is that it lacks the layered capabilities of Photoshop. So you can’t create as many overlays to edit or create animations as you can in Photoshop. If you need to create most of your images with Elements, it may be best for you because you can make use of the limited tools in Elements. Figure 6-1 shows an example of using Photoshop to change an image into its retouched version.

Adobe Photoshop/InDesign requires more education and experience than Elements, but it also offers a lot more sophisticated features. InDesign can create any form of illustration, and as a professional designer, you’ll find yourself using it for everything from brochures and logos to brochures and newsletters. It includes tools for page layout, drawing, exporting, and design—plus it has Adobe Fireworks, a more sophisticated illustration program.

The top illustration at right, Figure 6-2, is a page from an unpublished novel in InDesign, using the Type tool for the typeface and the Character Style for the font.

Photoshop is the most widely used graphics editor and many web designers use Photoshop to create graphical elements. In this tutorial, we will show you how to work with Adobe Photoshop. You will learn how to open, work on and close images. You will also learn how to change the layer, color, image and brush properties.

1. Opening an Image

An image can be opened in Photoshop by clicking the File > Open button (Figure 1).

2. Resizing an Image

You can resize an image by dragging its corners (Figure 2).

This feature is also known as the Crop tool. When you drag an edge of the image, it’s copied and is placed at a new location. If you drag an edge of the image right next to one of its four corners, the image gets cut. If you drag a corner inside the image, the image gets cropped.

You can also resize an image using the Dimensions tool (Figure 3). The Width and Height values define the size of the image in pixels.

3. Saving an Image

To save an image, you can use the Save and Export button (Figure 4).

The file name is added in the Save as dialog box. Click the Save button to save an image. Photoshop Elements can save all file formats including GIF, JPG, PNG, TIFF, EPS and others.

To save an image in a new location, you can use the Save command (Figure 6). Choose a location and a file name from the Save As dialog box.

You can open a file saved in a different location by choosing the Open button on the Open dialog box (Figure 7).

Forty years ago, Salvador Dali wasn’t always so controversial. Sure, he had a turbulent relationship with the Catholic Church, and probably felt like maybe he was not the best choice to create a statue of the infant Jesus, but those little transgressions aside, Dali was the artist of the surreal. He was a master of the shock value, a wonderfully weird creation, possibly the one we know most about because of the notoriety surrounding his life. Whether it was his rococo-style fashion, his clumsy appearance, his paintings that blend together realism and dream, or his strange persona, he always elicited a great response. However, over time, the controversial Dali has become the iconic Dali, and as his career in Spain has blossomed, his home in France has become isolated from his audience. The Museu de l’Image/Galleri Johan Capet is doing its best to bring his art into the realm of public knowledge once more.

Spanning four floors, the museum houses three sections: an art gallery, photography exhibition, and a sculpture exhibition. Outside of the museum, a second building houses more sculpture and painting. With each of the buildings showcasing Dali’s most well-known works, the museum attempts to allow visitors to see his style in a way that was never before possible. For example, the Galeria-Museu is an intimate gallery, with soft lighting and a low ceiling with no gallery separating the public from the art. The other two sections of the museum also attempt to make things as personal as possible, ranging from large-scale paintings to pet portraits and an entire room dedicated to a massive painting of John Wayne Gacy. Each of the rooms are jam-packed with artistic treasures, and the first floor of the museum houses the actual museum itself, with no wasted space.

Perhaps the most effective way the museum attempts to emphasize the art of Dali is the use of storyboards. Each of the rooms has a storyboard that shows the progression of the room, from the beginning to the end. This is particularly effective when you look at the third floor, where the exhibition attempts to cover the history of surrealism, the development of Dali’s ideas, and his relationship with religion. The storyboards are a great way to show visitors not only where Dali will be displayed next, but how the museum will assist in emphasizing the theme.

How to align two same axis position for a line chart with d3.js

I am trying to create a line chart with more than one axis, using d3.js. I am struggling to align the y and x axis positions for the topmost line.
The problem is when I draw a line chart with one y axis, the second y axis starts at the y axis position of the first line.
Trying to explain this with an example:
