Steganography is a practice that allows you to hide a file within another file, the latter usually being an image. To do so, you need a dedicated application, and one example is Mimage.
Straightforward interface, intuitive commands
This particular application requires no installation, so you don't have to go through a setup process. Double-clicking on the executable file starts Mimage, revealing its simplistic one-window interface.
Working with Mimage is very easy, especially since some of the commands already have associated hotkeys (unfortunately, it's not possible to customize them).
Select the source image, choose the files to hide, and that's it
You start by browsing for the source image to hide files in, in JPG or PNG format. As soon as you select it, a preview is displayed. Next, you have to choose the files to hide inside the image, no matter their type. You can conceal other images, videos, documents, or any other file.
The so-called "steg image" is the name of the output image, which will contain all the hidden data. If the file does not exist, the application creates it for you. There's only one thing to take into account: the steg image file type must match the format of the source picture.
Pressing the "Hide" button instructs Mimage to start the procedure and hide the files. You can add AES-256 password protection to the resulting image, but this is optional.
To extract the hidden content, Mimage requires you to select a location and provide the correct password, if any.
An unsophisticated yet fully-functional steganography tool
Mimage's might seem rudimentary, but it comprises easy to use options, which makes the application fit for any type of user, regardless of their experience. As a consequence, Mimage manages to provide users with a straightforward way to hide files inside images and share them without the risk of personal data being intercepted.

Mimage’s goal is to provide users with an “uncluttered” solution to the steganography task. As such, we’ve included a great number of features with many options. The result is that Mimage is a highly configurable tool, and it has many settings to ensure a trouble-free experience. Most of these features are accessible from the “Editor” window.

The application allows you to hide files as jpeg, png, jpeg2000, jpg, jp2, psd, pdf, tiff, gif, and bmp. You can select a file or directory, and add a “steg image” to use as the output.
Deterministic protocol
One requirement when it comes to hiding files in images is the encoding protocol (the one used when hiding a string inside an image), also known as mode. You can choose two different types of mode: the “normal” and “file name” (more about this further below).

The first is the “normal” mode, used for text files. The default secret key is set to be random, but you can specify your own to use instead. When you encrypt data, Mimage uses a method called AES-256.
The other type of mode is the “file name” one. This allows you to hide files in images with a random file name, which is very useful if you want to bypass virus scanners on the way. The main drawback of this method is that you need to know where to hide the file, although you could create a directory-based format with a random name.

Installation of Mimage
The application is a portable executable, which means you don’t have to install the Mimage executable file on your computer. You can launch it directly from its executable file.

You don’t need to install it, so you won’t be prompted to do so during its execution. If the application detects a previous version of Mimage being installed on your computer, it will cancel itself.
After you launch Mimage, you can select the files to hide, the destination image, and a password to encrypt it with.
Mimage is very configurable and provides many options, such as an advanced configuration interface (see the Image section). You can change several settings, such as the size of the output file, size, resolution, etc.
The interface of Mimage is very intuitive, with all the elements clearly visible in the foreground and tabs in the background. The
