Alternatively, you can also use GIMP, the free image manipulation program, to perform image editing tasks.

Figure 14-2 shows a simple Photoshop image.

In this example, I use a black background to better see the layers within the image. The upper left three layers are a background set, and the remaining layers are overlaid onto them. Figure 14-3 shows the layers of the image in the Layers panel.

The layers have been ordered so that the background and the black set are at the top of the image. The set layer below that is orange, a second set layer below that is white, and then another set layer below that is pink. These are overlaid on each other.

To apply an overlay, you first have to unlock the image layer. You must be careful not to lock an image layer when you’re saving a file — because then you’ll have to re-download the image. The image in Figure 14-4 shows the layer unlocked after I opened the image in Photoshop.

Select the layer you want to apply the overlay to and then go to Select ⇒ Modify and scroll down to the Overlay dialog box. Choose the options that best suit your needs. Use the following options:

Under the Option section, select the button labeled the Soften blend mode. The difference in the blend mode is pretty apparent in the image.

You can also select the Tonal Balance tab and set the blend mode to Linear Light. The effect here is different from the previous method in that you can use the sliders to modify the balance of the blend.

To make the edges of the overlay extra crisp, use the Eraser tool. Choose one of the extra filter options, such as Soft Focus, and then use the Eraser tool to create the edge.

If your image needs an overall adjustment to bring it in line with the underlying color balance, do so here.

Click OK and then Save. The layers are changed, and the updated file is saved.

You can also use the Lasso tool to select only part of the layer and then drag this selection to a new area in the image. Figure 14-5 shows a selection of part of the

Software requirements

Elements should work on any computer and any operating system. However, we do not recommend installing the trial version as it may not be compatible with your version of Photoshop Elements.

You will need a current version of Photoshop Elements to follow this tutorial. It can be downloaded as an installer and is compatible with Windows and Mac computers.

Working with the desktop version

If you only have the desktop version of Photoshop Elements, don’t worry – this tutorial is still useful.

The program icon looks like this:

You can start the program with the Photoshop Elements icon.

It has three options:

Lightroom – which allows you to edit images in the Lightroom format;

The second icon (the camera) opens the program and allows you to import pictures from the camera or import folders (folders are similar to image archives).

After you start the program, it will ask you what you want to do.

Select the option that you want: Photoshop Elements, Lightroom or Elements Photo Manager (the menus can be found on the second tab from the left).

After you choose the option, you will see this window:

If you don’t want to import photos, select Photoshop Elements. If you want to import photos, select Elements Photo Manager and you will be ready to import photos in

Python-Pandas dataframe not updating in the web application

I have implemented a web application using Flask,Jinja2 and Python. The application is supposed to display all the records in the database. But it is showing some records in the database and some records are not, and I am unable to figure out the issue.
The dataframe is updated at the backend and it is being reflected in the web application, but the web application is unable to update the dataframe in the web application. Could you please help?

Richard Maude

Richard Maude (1758 – 1815) was an English bishop and clergyman. He was Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral, London, from 1809 to 1815.

Life
Maude was the son of James Maude, Bishop of Stafford, and was born in 1758 at Bishops Waltham, Hampshire. After his father’s death he was brought up by his grandfather, James Maude, at a rectory near Alton, Hampshire, and at the age of eighteen became the curate of the neighbouring rectory of Steepington, Northamptonshire, the living of which, together with the one at Steepington, he held until he became a deacon. He graduated in 1780 as bachelors of both laws (B.A.) at St John’s College, Oxford, and in 1781 was ordained deacon, and in 1782 priest by John Skinner at Christchurch, Oxford. He was perpetual curate of Cottisford in Oxfordshire, and in 1785 he became perpetual curate of Addiscombe, Surrey.

In 1787 Maude was appointed to be perpetual curate of St Mary the Virgin, Marylebone; in 1795 he was granted the rectory of Saint Anne, Soho, and in 1797 he was made prebendary of St Mary’s, Oxford. In 1802 he became first rector of Saint Mary’s, Siloam, and in 1809 he was appointed dean of St Paul’s, London. He died in London in 1815.
