AutoCAD 23.1 PC/Windows

AutoCAD now runs on many platforms including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and web based. It is still a widely used for designing mechanical engineering, architectural and construction, electrical engineering, landscape architecture, homebuilding, and production planning.

Autodesk has also released a free, open source version of AutoCAD available to download on Windows, Linux and macOS.

History

AutoCAD was originally developed by Drew Taylor, originally as a program for creating a replica of a BMW M1, and was first released in January 1982.

An updated version was released in 1985 and is widely used today.

AutoCAD has a large feature set, including the following:

Construction model

This allows for the creation of free-form objects in three dimensions. It is also useful for creating mock-ups for furniture.

Drafting view

A way of viewing the design in 2D. This can be useful for smaller or less complicated designs.

A view which shows the design in both 2D and 3D.

It has also been designed to be simple for students, allowing them to draw small, 2D designs quickly.

In 2017, Autodesk introduced Draftsight, which is a new free drafting software offering with similar functionality, but with a more modern user interface.

Graphical interface

Since AutoCAD 2000, the original drawing window has been replaced with a graphical user interface.

Graphics

AutoCAD allows users to view and edit 3D drawings in a variety of windowed modes including drawing, wireframe, solid, and appearance. The rendering engine is similar to that used in other applications from the same company.

Repair tool

A repair tool is used to correct errors in the design, such as gaps, overlapping lines, and other problems.

Multiple pages

It is possible to create a document that includes several pages or sections of the design. It can also be used to display multiple views of the same object.

Selection

Autodesk’s standard mouse selection interface enables the user to draw simple shapes with the mouse and interact with the elements in an intuitive way.

The sketch tool was designed to be simple to use and attractive to design with, enabling users to quickly create drawings. It is a vector-based tool with no setting or learning curve and includes a wide range of

Programming languages

AutoCAD can be used as a target application with the AutoLISP (AutoCAD Language for LISP) programming language, which allows use of AutoCAD classes, functions, operators, and keywords from within programming code. AutoLISP was initially developed by Automation Applications Ltd. (now Autodesk Inc.) and later integrated into AutoCAD as an add-on to the core product.

AutoLISP is similar to AutoLISP/Visual LISP (VLISP) or Visual BASIC. AutoLISP has been one of the most successful programming languages for the development of add-ons for AutoCAD, and its successor, AutoCAD LT. AutoLISP has been replaced by Visual LISP for new applications, but most VLISP developers continue to support AutoLISP.

AutoCAD itself is based on ObjectARX which is a C++ class library which supports both ObjectARX and AutoCAD functionality. The software development kits (SDKs) for AutoCAD can be used to develop custom applications with the Windows GDI and Windows UI. Both are available for Microsoft Windows. GDI allows software to be developed for Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows CE and Windows XP. Windows GUI allows for the development of desktop applications for Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP, and CE.

Reception and recognition
AutoCAD has been widely acclaimed and, in 2017, was described by Fortune as the best program in the history of personal computing. AutoCAD has also been described as the “Apollo 11 of CAD” (signifying the most important moment in the history of AutoCAD), and was one of the most profitable CAD applications for its third-party developer community. It has been described as the “biggest software product in history”, and the “most popular commercial software product of all time”, “a software application without a peer in the CAD industry”.

Extract the contents of the file in the “install” folder and press OK
