Post-partum care

Today I am over at Cardielle’s Blog, sharing a quick tutorial for the Modern Peas Sew Along. For the girls, I’m knitting a hat and muff for Baby McRib. I did something like this for one of my girls earlier this year, but the pink yarn was so pretty I wanted to make sure I had some. The pattern is free, and the tutorial is also short and easy to follow.

So, I started taking photos for the blog today, but only took a few before I decided to start with a project. From the photos I took, I decided I was going to make a hat and a pincushion. I got a lot of hands out to help with both projects, so I figured I’d share my pre-teen craftiness with the world.

Time formatting for exchange rate calculations in python

I want to make a simple program that takes in a value such as 10 and formats it into a currency value such as $10.
Any ideas on how I would write this?

A:

Usually you would use the decimal module.
For example:
d1 = decimal.Decimal(10)
d2 = decimal.Decimal(5)

print ‘Decimal(‘+str(d1)+’) = $’+str(d1.quantize(decimal.Decimal(‘1.00’)) + ‘2’)
print ‘Decimal(‘+str(d2)+’) = $’+str(d2.quantize(decimal.Decimal(‘1.00’)) + ‘2’)

However, it is sometimes a bit difficult to understand and implement. You could write a simple piece of code that calculates exchange rates like:

How to convert an anonymous type to a dictionary

I have a list of items in an anonymous type
List ListOfItems = new List();

I want to convert this to a dictionary of pairs
var dict = ListOfItems.ToDictionary(x => x.Key, x => x.Value);

Obviously this is wrong, but I’m not really sure what the correct syntax is. What would be the correct way to go about this?

If you are sure the properties are of the same name. Then you can use a combination of a dictionary and a where:
var dict = ListOfItems
.Where(o => o.GetType().GetProperty(nameof(o.Key))!= null)
.ToDictionary(o => o.Key, o => o.GetType().GetProperty(nameof(o.Value)).GetValue(o));

If the properties have different names, you need to “trick” the compiler a bit:
var dict = ListOfItems
.ToDictionary(type => type.GetProperty(“Key”).GetValue(type)
, type => type.GetProperty(“Value”).GetValue(type));
