Replacing colors

You can change the color of a photograph by creating a new layer on top of it and then changing its color or adding a new color with which to replace the old one. You can choose colors by clicking the Color Swatch panel and then dragging colors in from the Swatches panel. Or you can create a new Swatch and then replace the color.

If you want to add an Adjustment layer based on a specific color, Photoshop Elements lets you do so by clicking the down arrow next to the word _Color,_ as shown in Figure 7

Adobe Photoshop Elements is available for Windows, Linux and macOS and is designed for users who have intermediate experience. This is a post to explain how to install and configure the software, the tools it provides and how it can help you to make changes and edits to images.

Step 1: Install Photoshop Elements on Windows

On Windows, you can download a trial version of Photoshop Elements. Click here to download Photoshop Elements trial version. Download and install the trial version.

After installing, you will be able to use the software, but there are a lot of features still hidden that you can’t access.

Step 2: Install Photoshop Elements on Mac or Linux

There is no official installer for Photoshop Elements on macOS or Linux. There is however a PPA that you can use for Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, openSUSE and derivatives. We will use that PPA for the following guides. Please note that the installation instructions below will be for the Ubuntu derivatives.

To install the official Photoshop Elements on Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, openSUSE, use this steps:

Open a terminal by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T.

Type the following command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:spiderlin/photoshop-elements sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install photoshop-elements

After completing the installation, you should be able to open Photoshop Elements from your applications menu.

Step 3: Install Photoshop Elements on Windows

As mentioned in the previous step, a trial version of Photoshop Elements is available for download.

Download and install the trial version.

Open a command window.

Type the following commands to setup a shortcut in the Start menu:

mklink /j C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp\ps-e2psclint C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11

where is your Windows user account. For example, I use Windows as my user name, and I will use MyUser for the command.

Replace with your Windows user account. In this guide, I will use MyUser.

Open Photoshop Elements 11.

Step 4: Install the necessary software

You will need to install several open source programs to use Photoshop Elements.
