# **Apple iPhoto**

IPhoto (Figures 18.6, 18.7) is an image-editing program that is included in the Macintosh user’s library.

Photoshop Elements was one of the most popular multimedia programs of the 90s and early 2000s. Photoshop Elements helped spread the popularity of digital cameras around the world, and with this popularity increased the need to edit images.

Finding a way to transform images into a more polished form – be it print or screen – is now something of a necessity. We trust that our list of Photoshop Elements tricks will help you find out how to edit images with Elements.

What’s in it for you?

Over the years, Photoshop Elements has been a leading multimedia program, mostly because it’s very easy to use for beginners, and offers a wide selection of features.

Although Elements is an alternative to traditional Photoshop, its power is limited in comparison. When you use Photoshop Elements for editing images, you’ll be editing between Pixel and CMYK (or Greyscale) modes.

This means that you’ll have less control over your adjustments, and can’t use adjustment layers or other professional features.

Photoshop Elements will also lack the power to edit files in a professional manner. However, Photoshop Elements does have the basic power to edit, as well as a couple of other graphic editing programs.

You can also save your files with limited resolution: 8 and 16 bits. Most of the time, for most purposes, 8 bits will be enough.

This doesn’t mean that you can’t save your files in a professional format, but you’ll need to be more careful when you export a file because you won’t be able to adjust many of your most valuable settings.

Elements has an Image Browser with numerous sorting options and quick access to commonly used locations. Image Browser can also be found in the main menu.

When opening an image, you can add to the user library or open an existing image in a folder. Images are also organized in the folders, which you can add to.

Raster and vector are clearly labeled in the column that contains this data.

Photoshop Elements contains a GIMP Advanced mode and a selection tool similar to those of Photoshop. This mode can be launched from the main menu by clicking Edit>More>Edit Advanced.

Lastly, the image adjustment tools in Photoshop Elements have the same functionalities as the adjustment tools in Photoshop. You can increase, decrease, correct, and transform colors and contrast, and even create cartoon-like
